Heron’s Key allows me to go at my pace, and offers the type of lifestyle I had planned for my retirement.
It’s so easy, it’s a care-free situation.
We’re grateful everyday we’re here.

This was the best gift we could have given our children.

As eight year residents, my wife and I are completely satisfied with HK from our independent living apartment, tasty food, welcoming and caring staff and intellectually curious neighbors.Posted on Lynne SailerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joining the beautiful community at Heron’s Key in Gig Harbor has been the most consequential decision we have made in our years post leaving the working world. Our experience has been enriching in so many ways….interacting with Residents & Staff that bring varied rich backgrounds to share, display of kindness to others consistently and sincere dedication to volunteer time & talents to programs, events and gatherings to nurture forward growth of this unique Community. As a Type A CCRC, this steadfast growing Community is a definite “Top 10 Star Choice” to seriously consider. If we were to make our decision again, we would again turn to Heron’s Key (which is part of Emerald Communities). Each day the dedicated Leadership & Staff enrich the life of each Resident for which we say “Thank you”!Posted on Cindy ThayerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I moved into Heron’s Key in 2017 at the age of 77. There has not been a day that I haven’t been so grateful for the decision I made. It is such an upbeat place to live, with positive people all around and sooooo many activities to occupy us.Posted on Susan InuiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I moved to Herons Key almost 7 years ago from Vermont so we could be closer to our daughter and son-in-law who live in Portland. We moved sooner than we'd anticipated once we learned that the kind of apartment we wanted was available right away. We have been grateful ever since that we moved when we were in our mid 70's. We've also been grateful every day that we selected Herons Key. Even though we haven't had to personally utilize the availability of all levels of living including higher levels of nursing care, the peace of mind it gives us is invaluable. We also enjoy being able to easily visit friends who have had to transition from independent living to higher levels of care. We feel the welcoming and supportive energy of Herons Key every day in so many ways. Our kids love to come for visits because they feel the same energy embracing us as well as them. There's never a lack of diverse activities to engage in if that's what we want to do. Once we discovered how delicious and economical the food is, I retired from cooking and we've never regretted that decision. We end each day expressing our gratitude for our decision to make Heron's Key our home for this unique chapter of our lives.Posted on Donna FrankelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ric and I will have lived here 3 years as of May, 2026. We downsized from 10 acres, house, guest house, barn, garden and forest in Sequim, WA to our 1250 foot apartment. It was a tremendously freeing experience; still able to garden in the resident plots and there is a wonderful forest and nature reserve to appreciate and walk/sit in without having to be involved in care and maintenance. Have made many new friends and also gotten reacquainted with a few people that we knew in Sequim. Donna needed several orthopedic procedures since moving in and really appreciated the on-site, excellent. skilled nursing unit for initial post-op recovery and on-site therapy for full recovery period. Donna loves to cook but the restaurant food is so good and reasonably priced, that she cooks much less now. With the wide variety of activities and services: the fully equipped gym with fitness instructors, the salon for hair, nail and massage and the on-site medical/podiatry clinic; one can be as active as one chooses. Yet with independent living, one can also be out and about in the community as desired. We feel truly blessed to be able to live here, in an atmosphere of family, which includes both residents and staff.Posted on Bev CheneyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our experience is a bit unique in that we weren't looking for a retirement community when we stumbled upon Heron's Key. We were actually looking for something to add to our stock portfolio. However, upon hearing about all that Heron's Key offers, especially the concept of continuing care as we have no children, we decided that this was meant to be. We sold our two homes and 3 months later along with our boxer moved in and have never looked back! (That's another plus - Heron's Key welcomes your dog!) The staff are wonderfully friendly and caring and the residents are welcoming and look out for each other. There are plenty of activities both on and off campus and you can do as much or as little as you wish. The restaurant is top notch serving delicious, gourmet as well as comfort food. Best of all, we no longer have to worry about fixing anything - the Facilities department quickly and competently takes care of that! Living at Heron's Key has taken the worry out of growing older! Adrienne and I moved into Heron's Key a bit over four years ago, following visits with and glowing reports from my sister and her husband, who moved here virtually the nanosecond the place opened. We've been delighted with the community -- on campus and off. There are endless activities, cultural, educational, civic and just plain fun. We've found the staff to be delightful and responsive to our needs, and our fellow residents to be fascinating, outgoing, welcoming people with hardly a pretentious soul among them. Heron's Key is a place where it's easy to build friendships, to celebrate one another's achievements. Oh, and our dogs really like the place, too.Posted on Kerry SmithTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been a resident here for more than four years and have absolutely no regrets. The culture is truly exceptional and far surpasses any other CCRCs we visited. Everyone is genuinely friendly, and the administrators are not only approachable but eager to help residents turn ideas into reality. The creative learning opportunities are outstanding, and the chef-prepared meals are consistently fantastic. This is a warm, engaging community that I’m proud to call home.Posted on Kay HessTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I moved into Heron's Key the first day it opened September 5, 2017. We absolutely love being here and knew we had made the right decision the first week we were here. I lost my husband three years ago and am so thankful that I am here in this community that is so caring and loving. Losing a loved one is never easy but being in this community has been a true blessing. I can't say enough good things about Heron's Key. We have so many activities, mental and physical. The food is fabulous, the staff is amazing and the community couldn't be better. If you choose to come here, you will not regret it!
There is a definitely a feeling of community. We’re we’re all in this together. We’re all walking each other home.

A year after we moved here, we did a trip with five other couples from here, a cruise from Fort Lauderdale all the way through the Panama Canal, and we’re all still friends at the end of the trip.
