A recent conversation with one of our residents offered a wonderful reminder about what choosing Heron’s Key is really about.
When preparing for a move, it’s natural to focus on the residential home itself: Will my furniture fit? Is the kitchen what I’m used to? What will I do with everything I’ve accumulated over the years?
But as our resident so thoughtfully put it, you’re not purchasing real estate. You’re investing in the right to be cared for when you need it and in the peace of mind that comes with knowing there is a plan for the future. Listen to her testimonial here.
For her, one of the most difficult parts of the transition was rightsizing. We know she isn’t alone. Leaving a longtime home and deciding what comes with you can feel overwhelming, which is why we have gathered resources to help make that process easier. Explore our downsizing resources here.

More Than a Residential Home
Choosing a Life Care community is very different from purchasing a condominium or another piece of real estate. Your residential home is certainly important, but it is only one part of what you are choosing.
At Heron’s Key, you are choosing the security of a lifetime of care within your community. You are choosing access to multiple levels of care if your needs change, along with the ability to better anticipate future expenses. Through our Life Care model, residents can access higher levels of care without facing the full market-rate cost of that care each month.
You are also choosing a lifestyle designed around the whole person: opportunities for lifelong learning, fitness and wellness, social connection, dining, activities and programs—all without the responsibilities that come with maintaining a traditional home.
And perhaps most importantly, you are choosing community: neighbors who become friends, familiar team members who know you, and a place you can continue to call home even if your needs change.

Phase II: Getting Closer!
For our future Phase II residents, the excitement continues to build. We are awaiting some of our final finish samples and look forward to beginning individual selection appointments soon. We currently anticipate Phase II move-ins beginning in late spring 2028.
We also recognize that everyone has things they love about their current home. Maybe it’s a particular countertop, appliance, cabinet style, paint color or other feature you selected over many years. Moving into a new community will inevitably involve some compromise, just as any move does.
Our Phase II finish and fixture options, including paint, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, appliances and other selections, have been thoughtfully curated by our team in partnership with our designers and architects. The selections are intended to complement the overall character of Heron’s Key while also meeting building-code and Fair Housing requirements and allowing our construction team to complete 54 new residential homes efficiently and on schedule.
For those reasons, the selections available during the construction process will be limited to the options provided through our Phase II selection program.
That doesn’t mean your new home can’t become uniquely yours. Once construction is complete, the building has received its Certificate of Occupancy and you have moved in, additional changes may be considered with approval from our Facilities team.
We know the transition from a longtime home can feel significant. But again and again, our residents remind us that after the boxes are unpacked and the pictures are hung, the square footage and finishes become only one small part of the story.
The real value of Heron’s Key is everything beyond your front door and the peace of mind of knowing this can be your home for life.
